About the work

Paul De Vos was born in Bruges in 1943 and studied at the Sint-Thomasinstituut in Brussels. He started out as an abstract painter, in the wake of Lucebert and Maurice Wyckaert, and after years of oil and acrylic he traded the canvas for fired clay.

What keeps him in ceramics is what earth and fire do together. Out of that firing come wayward forms that suggest dogs, people and other creatures, each with its own colour, texture and curve.

He lives and works in Bruges.
